Kampy

A site that demonstrates what off-grid, low-impact living and growing can look like in Singapore

Located within City Sprouts Henderson, Kampy is our sustainable living demo site where we test what it takes to be self-sufficient in Singapore. It began in 2023 as a 400 sq ft proposal. Today, it has doubled in size into a working site.

With Kampy’s continued growth as a testbed for solutions and means for data collection, we aim to create a site that functions as a working reference for communities, partners and policymakers looking to build Singapore’s resilience.

What We Built

Power Generation and Storage

The site is entirely powered by solar energy, with different systems dedicated to unique zones within the site.

Natural Water Purification

Using a mix of rainwater harvesting and dehumidifier integration, the site pulls water from Singapore’s tropical rain and humid air to reduce reliance on main water sources.

Off-Grid Communications

The site has its own communication system that operates without reliance on landlines and local networks.

Monitoring and IoT

Video monitoring, smart irrigation, and live data collection has been established within the site to ensure animal welfare, efficient farming, and accurate.

We focus on edibles that thrive in Singapore’s heat and humidity, ones that need less intervention and handle our conditions well.

Growing them is only half of what we learn. The vegetables most of us eat every day are hard to grow here, and the current weather makes it harder, with intense sun and extreme heat. By trialling both kinds of crops side by side, we see first-hand where conventional food struggles and where climate-suited alternatives hold up. That informs what a more climate-resilient local food system could look like.
