Zero Waste Masterplan: Singapore's Landfill Targets Explained
Share
Released in 2019, the Zero Waste Masterplan is Singapore's overarching blueprint for cutting landfill waste and closing resource loops.
Key targets
- Cut waste sent to landfill per capita per day by 30% by 2030.
- Extend Semakau Landfill's lifespan beyond 2035.
Who it affects
- Residents: This is the umbrella goal behind household recycling pushes and the Beverage Container Return Scheme.
- SMEs: Priority waste streams under this plan are e-waste, food waste, and packaging waste, which is where MPR and EPR schemes originate.
- F&B operators: Food waste is one of the three priority streams. Expect more food waste-specific rules to build out from this plan over time.
What you need to do
- Everyone: No direct registration, but this plan is the reason nearly every other scheme here exists. Understanding it gives context for what's coming next.
